Everyone’s talking about sustainability. You’ll be used to seeing a whole lot of talk and not enough action. Not so at Luii. Environmentally friendly design is fundamental to everything we make. We never, ever greenwash, and we won’t rest until our products are fully circular.
Too much is going to waste
Existing travel toilets and incontinence products are not good for the planet. Most single-use disposables, like absorbent pants, pads and throw-away bags, are fossil-based and resource hungry, with manufacturing processes that gobble up virgin materials, water and energy. While lots of disposable toilet makers claim their absorbents are biodegradable or flushable, they’re neither. It’s greenwashing – pure and simple.
We’re doing more with less
In a world of single-use travel toilets and throwaway absorbent products, we’re striving for circularity with Luii. In circular design, everything that goes into a product can be reused, recycled or composted, so nothing is thrown away. In short, in the design of every Luii product we’re aiming to use fewer resources and – eventually – create no waste at all.
We choose materials really carefully
Our first priority is making sure that Luii designs work really well, so you won't be let down. We then look for high quality, sustainable materials that do the job perfectly, so that our products are totally dependable, safe, and easy to use. We also only use brand new (or ‘virgin’) materials when necessary – such as to keep things waterproof or protect the product from
contamination.
We’re well on our way
So far we have reusable, recyclable frames and compostable bags. We’re testing prototype bio-based polymers to replace the fast-acting absorbent inside. At present there’s nothing out there that absorbs liquid quickly enough, but we’re on track to find a compostable absorbent within the next two years. By then, our products will be fully circular – and completely waste free.
